The SFB subsidised 4 bike trailers for Pauline's "For Woman in Science" award

Dec 2023. Borrowing bicycle trailers every semester -  female students and scientists at Faculty V who have small children will now be able to do so.

The project was initiated by Pauline Fleischmann, who received the L'Oréal "For Woman in Science" award for her outstanding research into the navigational skills of desert ants in 2021. In addition to a scholarship, this also included prize money for projects that improve the compatibility of research and family life.

The SFB 1372 has increased the prize money to purchase a total of four trailers. Interested parties from Faculty V can contact mobile.gleichstellung.fk5[at]uol.de by e-mail. Allocation is on a first-come, first-served basis, with female students and doctoral candidates having priority due to their financial means.

The mobile nurserys allow our colleagues to take their children with them in case there is a gap in childcare. The box is fully equipped with toys and useful details for children between 0 and 7 years old.

The box is located next to the lecture hall W3-1-161 of the University of Oldenburg. The keys can be picked up at the central reception.

    Screening of "Picture a Scientist"

October 2025 "There is a playbook. It was written by men. I always felt I didn't have the play- book." - Picture A Scientist

The SFB 1372 team hosted a screening of "Picture a Scientist"  with around 50 participants, sparking meaningful discussions on strength, solidarity, and equality in science on 16th October in collaboration with Unikino Gegenlicht.

This powerful documentary follows three remarkable scientists biologist Nancy Hopkins, chemist Raychelle Burks, and geologist Jane Willenbring; as they share their personal journeys through the world of research.  From facing overt discrimination to confronting subtle biases, their stories highlight the courage it takes to challenge the system and spark global change.  Along the way, the film amplifies voices from across disciplines, showing how science can evolve to become more diverse, equitable, and inclusive; from bustling laboratories to remote field stations.

Let’s continue to build a future where every scientist regardless of gender is seen, heard, and valued.

Writing retreat for female scientists on Langeoog

    March 2024

For four days, female junior researchers from our SFB were able to concentrate on writing papers at a self-organised writing retreat on the East Frisian island of Langeoog. The weather was glorious and we were able to go for a walk on the beach to clear our heads for new creativity.
